Air Quality

Geographic features such as mountain ranges, coastlines, and land modified by people can cause air pollutants to concentrate in, or disperse from, an area. However, the types and amounts of pollutants entering the air have a much larger impact on air quality. Natural sources, such as volcanic activity and dust storms, add some pollutants to the air, but most pollutants come from human activity.

Air Quality

The dots on the map change color depending on the current air quality readings at each station. You’ll notice that some dots on the map are larger, which indicates an area has multiple monitors. The Air Quality Indexis a daily index of air quality that reports how clean the air is and provides information on potential health risks. Please note, the Daily Air Quality Forecast is issued for your entire County.

Cumulative health effects

Airly sensors are small devices that measure the level of outdoor air pollution. In real time, the sensors read a series of air parameters (PM1, PM2.5, PM10, temperature, pressure and humidity) in a particular location. Research confirms the quality and reliability of the data collected by Airly’s sensors, as well as the fact that weather conditions (e.g. humidity) do not affect the measurements. Air pollution is the third cause ofdeath in the Netherlands, after smoking and obesity. Living, working or goingto school in polluted air has a similar effect to smoking cigarettes. Vulnerable groupssuch as children and the elderly are extra sensitive to the effects of pollutedair. For example, air pollution has adverse effects on pregnant women and thebirth weight of their babies.

What is the air quality index for the Netherlands?

The Netherlands or sometimes informally known as Holland is a country located in

Western Europe. The capital city is Amsterdam which is one of the four largest

in the country and the most populous. In 2020 the estimated population was

almost 17.5 million people.

In 2019, the air quality in Amsterdam was classified as being “Good” with a PM2.5

concentration of 10.7 µg/m³, as published by the renowned

Swiss company IQAir.com. For 4 months during that year, the air quality was within the target figure

recommended by the World Health Organisation (WHO). Their suggested target is

10 µg/m³ or lower. A further 5 months saw the air quality as “Good” with

figures between 10 and 12 µg/m³. The remaining 3 months returned a “Moderate

“level with figures between 12.1 and 35.4 µg/m³. Looking back over previous

years since data has been available in 2017 the figure stood at 12.2 µg/m³

followed by 11.5 µg/m³ in 2018 so gradually showing a slight improvement year

after year….  Ещё

It causes serious illnesses such as asthma, cardiovascular problems and lung cancer, and vulnerable groups are affected the most. Air pollution also damages the environment and ecosystems through excess nitrogen pollution and acid rain. It is also costly for our economy, as it leads to lost working days and high healthcare costs. The standards for air pollution set by the European Union are partly based oneconomic feasibility, so they are not as strict and do not protect thepopulation against disease.

What are the main causes of air pollution in the Netherlands?

In 2014, twelve thousand people died prematurely from air pollution and it hasbeen suggested that the Dutch live an average of thirteen months shorter due to air pollution. This site is an effort by many city, county, tribal, state and federal agencies to coordinate and aggregate information for Oregon communities affected by wildfire smoke. Conference calls with other air quality and weather agencies during widespread events such as wildfires and dust storms.

Air Quality

Use of different measurement methods, along with the time needed for data processing on the EPI servers, can mean data from this source gets delayed for up to 1.5 hours. The color makes it easy for people to quickly determine whether Air Quality is reaching unhealthy levels in their communities. Air quality in the Netherlands has improved significantly over the past threedecades. However, there is no lower limit at which there is no risk to health.Even at low concentrations of air pollution, effects have still been calculated.

WHO Air quality guideline values

MNRISKS compares air pollution levels against health benchmarks to estimate the potential for negative health effects. A health benchmark is an amount of air pollution that is unlikely to result in health effects after a specific exposure period. Avoid exposure to pollutants — Keep away from wood smoke, vehicle exhaust, tobacco smoke, and other sources of airborne particles, where possible. Avoid prolonged outdoor exertion near busy roadways or on days when the air quality is poor. To effectively address EJ concerns, the Agency recognizes that communities must be the impetus for implementing local solutions for environmental health problems including indoor air. However, far too many communities lack the capacity to truly affect their environmental conditions.

The norms of acceptable daily concentrations established by the World Health Organization are 45 μg/m3 for PM10. The value given is the pressure above the sea level, calculated from the values given by the sensor, taking into account the height at which it was mounted. Due to processing time, this map may take longer to update than the dial. The risk is a combination of being exposed to something and the degree to which a substance is toxic.

Which city in the Netherlands has the highest levels of air pollution?

Scientists have also linked short-term exposures to heart attacks and abnormal heartbeats. Over time, breathing fine particles in the air increases the chances of developing chronic obstructive lung disease , chronic bronchitis, cardiovascular disease, or lung cancer. In high concentrations, wood smoke can permanently damage lung tissue. After careful study, EPA and CDC found that air pollution modeled predictions are very similar to actual monitor data in areas where the two can be compared.

  • There are standards suggested by the European Union with regards to levels of PM10and nitrogen dioxide and other gases but for the worstpollutant which is the microscopic PM2.5, there are no recommended levels orlimits.
  • We chose BreezoMeter as our Air Quality data partner as they provide us with the most accurate, reliable data available.
  • Go to Freedom of Information Act Requests The Michigan Freedom of Information Act provides all persons with access to public records of public bodies.
  • In 2019, the air quality in Amsterdam was classified as being “Good” with a PM2.5concentration of 10.7 µg/m³, as published by the renownedSwiss company IQAir.com.

Nitrogen dioxide is not only harmful to humansand animals, it also causes acidification in nature. If air quality forecasts are not available in your community, call your local media and tell them you would like them to offer this important public health service. Air pollution negatively impacts the land and oceans, as well as the air. Good air quality is critical for maintaining healthy human, animal, and plant life on Earth.

Long-Term Effects

The asthma hospitalization rate among Twin Cities children is more than 50% higher than among children living in Greater Minnesota. However, even levels of air pollution below the standards can affect people’s health, including levels currently found in parts of Minnesota. The AQI is a tool for reporting how clean or polluted the air is and the potential health effects. An AQI greater than 100 means https://www.wave-accounting.net/ is not within the health-based air quality standards established by the EPA.

Which city has no pollution?

Results: India's Least Polluted Cities

The least polluted city in India, Imphal, had air pollution levels more than 2-times higher than the recommended limit. Six of the top twenty least polluted cities were located in Karnataka and the majority of the cities are in the South.
